Who is Jay Higham?

Married for 18 year, I am one of those guys who can honestly say, I love being married! I married my wife, Amy, on Saturday, May 18th, 1996. Since then, it has been an adventure like no other! I am passionate about marriage. It is truly a gift from God. And when fully experienced in the manner by which God created it, marriage is a perfect picture of God’s love, grace, joy, and mercy!

I have 5; 4 boys & 1 girl. And they are amazing. They’re not perfect. But neither am I. Yet together, by God’s grace, we are building a family.

For 21 years I have served as a youth pastor. Student ministry has been a passion of mine since I was a student. There is nothing as exciting as watching a student discover God’s love and grace, and then leading them to find their God given purpose.

Today, I serve as the pastor of a new church being planted in the northern Washington County area in western PA. Harvest Church began gathering for worship in the fall of 2011. By the end of the summer in 2012, we made the move into the area Canonsburg area to assume the role of Pastor at Harvest Church.

Even though I now serve as pastor, I still keep my hand in the world of youth ministry. I write and blog about youth ministry, culture, and life. I also serve with two amazing teams that love youth workers, Youth Specialties’ National Youth Workers Convention and Simply Youth Ministry’s Simply Youth Ministry Conference.

Simply Youth Ministry Conference – SYMC is one my favorite places for training and growth, the Simply Youth Ministry Conference is an amazing opportunity for youth pastors to connect, grow, and be challenged and renewed for the callings of their ministries.

The National Youth Workers Convention (NYWC) – NYWC is the other favorite place for training and growth. When I was just getting started in full-time ministry, the NYWC was greatly influential in my ministry. 12 years of convention attendance helped shape the ministry that God was calling me into.

I love to write. And one of the ways I express that passion is through the avenue of children’s books. To date, I have written and published 5 children’s books, all available through Amazon! The books aren’t anything special. Just fun simple books for young readers. You can find my books using the links above.

– Along with, I have created two other blogs. The first was the, Youth Worker Tip of the Day, a daily resource for youth workers. Monday through Friday, I post a short, practical tips for those who work with students. Early in 2013, I decided to shut down the YWTD blog and launched,, a website that invites youth workers into conversations about student ministry. The second blog is, The Good Husband Blog, a blog that discusses the adventures and lessons of being a husband.
