Tip: You have the greatest job in the world!
I couldn’t have imagined that these last 20+ years would have been so amazing! I still remember talking to my parents at the end of the summer in 1991, telling them that I believed God was calling me to serve as a youth worker. Now, all these year later, I can only pause and look back and say, “Wow, what a ride.”
Whether this is your first day, your first week, or your 10 year anniversary, you need to know that you have the greatest job in the world. But it’s more than a job; it’s a lifestyle. It’s a calling to do something huge, epic, out of this world. And only a select few get to do what you get to do.
There will be challenges. There will be difficulties. Parents will love you and resent you. You will experience mountain top highs and valley of death lows. You will celebrate a spiritual victory on Tuesday with Jimmy and shed tears of loss and pain with Jenny on Thursday. You will bring revival to a some and weep because you haven’t been able to reach them all.
You are a youth worker; a warrior facing the front lines of battle of life and death. You teach theology and Christian doctrine every week. You share the glorious gospel message every chance you get. You cheer, you challenge, you stretch, you call out. And you will given everything you’ve got!
This isn’t just a job. It’s more than a career. This is your life. It’s what you live for. And you won’t have it any other way. Why? Because YOU ARE A YOUTH WORKER!
It’s a brand new year. Let’s make this one a year of joy, because we get to do what we were created for.
