The LIFE Christ Lived…Harvest Church

It’s easy for us to say, “Yeah, I’m a Christian. I go to church. I give faithfully. I do the right things.” We can all do that. And if you look at the church, you will find dozens of people sitting in the pews saying the same things. But to say it and to do it, are 2 different things. In Philippians 2:1-11, Paul challenges the Christians to consider, if this is truly the life you say you live, then these are the expectations that you are to live by.

What are these expectations?

The expectations are demonstrated in the life that Christ lives.

Paul says, “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus…” Then Paul goes on to give us three examples of how Christ lived his life…

1. He Lived as a Servant…
– Christ came to serve and not to be served. The King of kings, come to earth to the serve the people he would soon die for. It’s a radical concept. No other religion speaks about a servant-king who comes to care for and serve his people. But that is exactly what Jesus does. In fact not only does he does this by example, but speaks about to his disciples. He warns them not to lord their influence over the people, but to serve them with a love that comes only from him. When you think about LIFE, do you think about the opportunities to serve others?

2. He Lived with Humility…
– Jesus left the perfection and status of heaven to come and walk the earth. Here we see God the Son, purposely coming to be among his people. He became a human, just like you and me. he experienced all that we experience. And yet, while fully man, he remained fully God. At any point he could have pulled the “God”-card and done things differently, but instead, he chose to humble himself so he could be like us. when you think about LIFE, do you consider what it might be like to slip into the shoes of someone else and live their life for a while? It’s a humbling experience.

3. He Lived Obedient…
– The LIFE that Jesus comes to give us is the LIFE that God intend us to live along. It’s a live of perfect obedience. It’s a life that we can’t live. But Jesus comes not only live by the law but to fulfill the law perfectly. What the man was unable to do in the Garden, Jesus does for us in perfect obedience. As a man, he lived in total obedience of his Father’s will. But more than obeying the law, his obedience led him to the cross. And in that obedience his sacrifice of death became the perfect atonement for sin. As you think about LIFE, are you thinking about the imperfection and lack of obedience that you live by?

Jesus said, “I have come that they may have LIFE; and have it to the full.” The LIFE that he gives is life of service, humility, and obedience. Isn’t THAT the LIFE we should want to live?
