It has been my practice to take Tuesday’s off. This is a day spent catching up on chores around the house, time spent with my wife, or just relax and rest.
Yesterday was just that. The morning was spent cleaning, mowing, edging, raking, and getting ready for the summer season. The afternoon was spent in the basement straightening, cleaning and organizing. It was a good day and I feel like much was accomplished. Then the surprise.
Monday afternoon, just before our Little League Baseball game, I received a phone call from an elder in our church. She said she had four tickets for Tuesday nights Pirates/Dodger game. Wow!
There are sacrifices a family makes to stay in youth ministry. It’s a calling to love students not to live high on the hog. There are not many of us working for the money, the prestige, or the power with the position. We do it because God calls us to it.
Personally, my wife and I have committed ourselves to our ministry. We have also committed to Amy staying home while the kids weren’t in school. Who knew we’d have five adding up to 13 years of one-income living.
This isn’t a rant about salary. It’s not a laundry list of boo-hoos. This is about how God blesses people when they committee their lives to be obedient to His call. We choose to follow God’s lead. At times it’s been a struggle. At times, we’ve wanted to do more, give more, or share more with our kids. At times, we thought it would be better to throw in the towel and send Amy back to work. But time and time again, God has shown us that He cares about the big things as well as the little things. So this is an article to Praise God for His blessings.
The game was great and we had a blast. Our seats were six rows from the dirt. We sat right behind first base. We laughed. We talked. We experienced a special night with our 2 oldest boys. And we are so grateful for everyone God has brought into our lives.
I don’t know your story. I don’t know where you are. But I do know that God knows. He knows and He cares. And He will do amazing things because He loves you. If you’ve made the commitment to put God’s plan first in your life, then know that He will provide all that you need to live that life.
